The cat eye is a cherished vintage makeup style and our resident beauty expert, Ashton with Pinup Salon, shows us how to get a perfect cat eye. Styling yourself with this glam look instantly lifts your eyes and elongates them, making you appear effortlessly stunning. The key is to keep your other makeup more natural so your eyes remain the focus of this alluring look.

How to get a perfect cat eye

Firstly, you’ll want to find a space to work in that has a large mirror and is well lit. Next, take a deep breath, relax, and maybe pop on your favorite song. Cat eyes require precision, but with these step by step instructions you’ll be channeling your inner retro goddess in no time.

The right tools are just as important as the right setting. Look for a soft liner as that will be easier to apply and begin by taking care of any eye shadow, eyebrow filling, and eyelash curling you want to do. Remember – the key is to let the cat eye shape stand out so go for neutral shadow tones.

Get a perfect cat eye in five easy steps!

As we see in Step One: Begin by starting at the inside corner of your eye, moving along the natural lash line. Secondly, once you reach the outer edge of your eye, extend the liner upwards and out. Continue on to Step Three: Create a line from the edge of your natural lash line to the edge of your wing, forming a triangle. Congratulations, you’ve reached the final two steps and the hardest parts are now behind you. Sketch the triangle until it’s the perfect shape and then fill in the area. Extend the tip if you’re feeling fancy, apply mascara, and you’re ready for a night on the town!

Don’t stress if you make a few mistakes along the way. Practice makes perfect and some concealer on an angled sponge makes a handy eraser as you tweak the shape.
